What is a Self Assessment Tax Return?

If you are self-employed, a higher rate tax payer, a company director or have more complicated tax affairs, you are legally required to complete and submit a Self Assessment Tax Return to HMRC. If you wish to find out if you need to complete a Self Assessment Return, please go to -  

How and when do I give this in?

You will need to send to me, as soon as possible, all documentation so that I can meet the strict deadlines issued by HMRC.

6 April: Issue of Self Assessment Returns by HMRC

31 October: Deadline for the submission of paper returns

30 December: If tax due is below £2,000 and you want this to be collected through your PAYE Tax Code your Tax Return must be submitted by this date

31 January: Final deadline for returns to be filed online

If you do not complete your return by the deadline and complete all relevant forms to declare you are self-employed or that you have any untaxed income, you will be charged interest and penalties.

 How the service works

I will need you to complete a questionnaire so that I can understand your personal tax situation.  From the information you give me, I will be able to produce the necessary end of year accounts and complete your tax return. Having calculated your tax liability, I will file your return online with HMRC.  I will advise you of that liability, how much you will need to pay and when.
